ELLE Style Awards: Tems Shines Bright! Wins Trailblazer Award
Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, known as Tems, celebrated a remarkable achievement on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.
In London, United Kingdom, the Grammy-winning artist earned the Trailblazer Award at the ELLE Style Awards.
Tems, in attendance, graciously accepted the accolade, presented by BAFTA-winning actress Naomi Ackie and BBC Radio 1 presenter Julie Adenuga. During her acceptance speech, the ‘Essence’ songstress attributed her career success to her upbringing in Lagos, Nigeria, and her faith.
“To be here today reminds me of what it is to be from Lagos, Nigeria; it’s such a different environment. It motivates me to keep going because honestly, the only thing I remembered was that I’m not here for myself – I wouldn’t be standing here if it wasn’t for God, for Jesus. I am so grateful to be in this environment looking at your beautiful faces.”
