Iyabo Ojo Attributes Her Tax Battle To The Cost of Speaking Up

Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, known for her outspoken and confrontational nature, has recently found herself at odds with a daunting financial situation: a staggering 18 million naira tax charge.

In an Instagram post, she opens up about the challenges she faces as a celebrity who dares to raise her voice.

Iyabo Ojo has never been one to shy away from addressing societal issues. Her unwavering stand on issues like supporting a molestation victim and her political preferences drew criticism and hate. Yet, she remained true to her convictions. This unwavering commitment to her beliefs has come at a personal cost, with accusations and resentment mounting against her.

The actress reveals that she is now faced with a hefty personal income tax bill, amounting to nearly 18 million naira. While she has made payments covering the years 2014 to 2019, the bill for 2020 to 2022 looms large. She must either settle this substantial sum before the end of November or engage in a legal battle. Iyabo’s attempts to negotiate a reasonable payment plan have been met with rejection, despite her willingness to comply and even issue an apology letter and she attributes this to witch-hunting.

What frustrates her is the seeming lack of understanding surrounding her financial situation. She highlights that she is the breadwinner for over 30 people and has been navigating the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this, she faithfully pays her business taxes, mortgages, and loans. The looming tax burden, coupled with rising costs of living, has placed her in a tight spot.
