Disney Animation Studios and Kugali, the prominent Pan-African entertainment company, are thrilled to announce the eagerly awaited release of the groundbreaking animated series, “Iwájú,” exclusively streaming on Disney+ starting February 28, 2024.

Viewers can now get an exciting sneak peek featuring captivating images.

Set against the backdrop of a futuristic Lagos, Nigeria, “Iwájú” is a compelling six-part animated series that embarks on a mesmerizing coming-of-age journey. The narrative centres around Tola, a young girl from an affluent island, and her best friend, Kole, a self-taught tech expert. Together, they navigate the secrets and dangers concealed in their distinct worlds.

Directed by Olufikayo Ziki Adeola, with Hamid Ibrahim as the production designer and Toluwalakin Olowofoyeku as the cultural consultant, Kugali filmmakers bring the vibrant world of “Iwájú” to life. Drawing inspiration from the spirit of Lagos, the series is infused with unique visual elements and technological advancements. Disney Animation’s Christina Chen oversees production, and the screenplay is crafted by Adeola and Halima Hudson. The stellar voice cast includes Simisola Gbadamosi, Dayo Okeniyi, Femi Branch, Siji Soetan, and Weruche Opia.

“Iwájú” premieres on February 28 in the US, with release details for other regions, including Nigeria, to be revealed shortly.

Accompanying the series debut is “Iwájú: A Day Ahead,” a documentary special filmed across three continents. Directed by Megan Harding and executive produced by Amy Astley and Beth Hoppe, this documentary shares the inspiring story of Kugali’s founders, illustrating how they transformed their dreams into reality by collaborating with Walt Disney Animation Studios. The documentary emphasizes the belief that anything is possible when talent meets opportunity.
