These Are the Faces To Look Out For As Africa Magic Local Series Take Center Stage

Africa has no shortage of stories to tell and with these stories come the faces we come to know and love.

With Africa Magic consistently serving up fresh faces that quickly become household names, there is a new wave of fresh talents poised to captivate audiences across the continent and beyond.

From visionary directors to talented actors, these faces are paving their way to success with sheer talent, hard work, and dedication, inspiring others to follow their lead. Here are a few to watch as they continue pushing the boundaries and redefining possibilities in their field.

Adetola Thelma Jones: A talented artist who is an actor, singer/songwriter, dancer, and model, Adetola embraces all the various aspects of her personality and identity. Known to her fans as Doosur on the TV show #AMManfriend and Lola on #AMUnmarried S4, she has a mixed heritage, being both Yoruba and Hausa.

Adetola has been featured in multiple TV series on Africa Magic over the past few years, including Dilemma, Love and Light, Refuge, Unmarried, and Man Friend. She has also appeared in films like Not The Plan, In Your Heart, Cheat, Break or Bend, and Better Half. Adetola played the lead role of Diane in the award-winning filmmaker Diane Russet’s debut movie, Dear Diane.

Charles Born: Charles Born is popularly known as the host of the podcast ‘To Be Honest’ produced by Glitch Africa Studios. A show host, radio host, MC, model, scriptwriter and actor, Charles has appeared in movies such as On The Edge, A Little Lie, Mercy, Honey We Are Broke, and Oh My Coconut. He also currently plays Ugo Sinkah in Africa Magic’s Hook, Line, and Sinkah. Charles is currently the co-host of ‘The Inside Out Show’ on Channels TV, WAPTV, and Rave TV. He is also a producer and presenter of several TV shows like ‘D’casa(live)’, ‘Up and About(recorded)’ and ‘Chillz(live)’ on Rave TV.

David Davidson:  David Davidson is an actor, production coordinator, scriptwriter and voiceover artist. Describing himself as a creative who is always eager to learn, David played the role of Eziza in Africa Magic’s Covenant and Tayo Adebayo in Checkout. He has also appeared in movie productions such as Testi Money Time, Stay With Me, Oratory, Badamasi, Money Miss Road and many more.

David Riyo: David Riyo is known for his recent portrayal of Jubril in MTV’s hit series MTV Shuga Naija. Despite being relatively new to screen performances, Riyo has also booked roles in popular TV dramas like The Johnson and Brethren on Africa Magic.

As an actor who believes in the uniqueness of stage acting, he appeared in the critically acclaimed apartheid play “Sizwe Bansi Is Dead”, where he played the character Buntu, which led to his booking a role in EbonylifeTv’s The Governor.

Having graduated from the University of Calabar with a degree in Theatre, David Riyo is always seeking to improve his craft by taking online classes and courses on film. In his free time, he still performs, priding himself as an impressionist — whether voice or body.

Floyd Igbo: Actor and creative director Floyd Igbo made his first big appearance on TNC’s Little Black Book, appearing alongside notable actors like Teniola Aladese, Paul Utomi, Moet Abebe, Nengi Adoki, Kanayo O. Kanayo, and Bimbo Akintola.

Floyd has also acted in several films, including 93 Days, Who is Daddy, and Foreigners God. Floyd is one of the lead actors on Africa Magic’s Hook, Line, and Sinkah, playing the role of ‘Kenny Sinkah’, and on Showmax’s Cheta M, where he plays Onochie.

Kuchi Chris: A multi-talented individual known for her work in the film industry as an actor, screenwriter, and producer. Some of her notable works include Once Upon A Perfect Murder (2021), Ikenna’s Trial (2023), and Aki and Pawpaw (2021).

Kuchi Chris has also acted in several productions, including CheckOut, where she played the character Zira Hassan, and in Moments, where she played Nengi.

She has also worked as a writer on various projects, including Kadara, Nwanyi Ike, and Masquerades of Aniedo. Kuchi Chris holds a Master’s degree in Film Production, specialising in Scripting and Directing, from Pan-Atlantic University.

She also participated in the Cinephilia Film Development Workroom in May 2021 and served as the Line Producer for Paindemic, the runner-up in the Homevida Short Film Competition.

Oluwatobi Fakos: A fast-rising star in Yoruba Nollywood, Oluwatobi Fakos has appeared in many TV shows like Atoka, Igbókòyí, Fogo, and Eka. Fakos currently plays the lead role in Africa Magic’s Kadara, a story about a young man named Sesan who leaves his hometown to pursue quick riches through cybercrime with his best friend, Folarin (Damilola Deremi). 

Their initial success leads them to a lavish lifestyle until Sesan makes a grave mistake that forces him to seek sanctuary in Agbula while Folarin abandons him. Oluwatobi was recognized at the RARA Awards in 2022 for his exceptional acting skills.

Ugoh Amanda: Ugoh Amanda has appeared in numerous Nollywood movies and TV/web series including Africa Magic’s Kadara, Breath of Life, We Win, All Na Vibes (Efe), Imade, Crushed Roses, What Now, and Mr Gbenga’s Hard Drive.

She has also acted in stage plays such as “The Trials Of Dedan Kimathi”, “Omugwo”, and “The Big Tree”. If you enjoyed Jumoke on #awonaladundeseries and Chimamanda on #okototheseries, then you most definitely will enjoy Amanda’s character on #AMKadara.

As we celebrate the accomplishments and eagerly anticipate the future endeavours of these bright stars, one thing remains clear: the future of African entertainment is in safe hands. Time will tell.
